Far Corfe: The Great Yuzzem Giveaway

The arrival of the Yuzzem in town attracts much interest from the natives...
I've been planning a series of skirmish games in anticipation of being able to do something fun once the dangers of the Covid Pandemic have lessened to the point where it's possible to get together with friends that I haven't seen for many months now.

The system that I settled is Fistful of Lead, by Wiley Games, a very reasonably-priced and adaptable set of rules that should allow me to make use of the miniatures and terrain that I've been stacking up for the past couple of years and have a good laugh at the same time.

But while flipping through the pages and admiring the shots in the rulebook of the writers own minis in action, I came across a shot of a large, hairy alien that looked rather interesting - a Yuzzem from the WOTC Star Wars minis game that was around a couple of years ago.

Hopping on eBay, I managed to bag one of these for a reasonable price and set about customising it to my own particular tastes, and the result can be seen below:

I gave this guy a more chunky weapon from Cromlech, a knife and various other additions to make him look more tooled up, and painted his coat white, as I have a strange aversion to painting almost anything in that ubiquitous shade of brown that furred creatures always seem to end up with.

I wanted to add a couple more after this to make a squad, and I just happened to stumble across a couple being sold on eBay, then realised that they had actually been converted by non other than GW veteran Bob Olley himself!

I nabbed myself a couple and proceeded to base and paint them to match my original efforts.

Although it's pretty obvious which of these were the creation of Mr Olley, I'm still quite pleased with the way that they fit together as a unit of hairy mercenaries from beyond the stars, just looking for their next job and willing to accept payment in cash, guns or the right to eat the bodies of their targets.

Bugsy Capone, legitimate businessman, pillar of the community and all round swell guy clocks his rival's new hires approaching down the street...
At the end of all this, I found that I had one Yuzzem left over, and rather than add it to the squad, I've decided that it'll be the prize in the first ever competition that I've attempted on my blog.

So if you like the look of the big, hairy guy in the shot above, then all you need to do to be in with a chance of winning him is comment at the bottom of this entry, telling me why you think you should get your hands on him and what you intend to do with him when you do, along with an email address for if you win the competition.

There's no specific criteria for me picking a winner, I'll just choose the one that sounds best to me, makes me laugh or want to see what you do with the lone Yuzzem once he's yours.

Based on how many takers I get, I'll probably announce a winner on or around the 1st August.

So let me know what you think, either on here or via social media - and you will need to comment HERE to be entered into the competition.

  1. The Yuzzem are great minis for convertions, I used a pair of them to make a six limbed Vorox alien from the Holistic Designs Fading Suns setting.

  2. I'd use him as a member of a squad for Rogue Stars. He will make quite an impact on the table.

    1. I'm sure he would - these guys are almost perfect for Rogue Stars.

  3. Oh, I don't think I could use him at all! My Eldar (who get a workout playing anything but W40k, just so they have a chance of not getting slaughtered occasionally) absolutely wouldn't be seen dead (mmm) next to such a hairy brute! Wax him and maybe give him a perm + some harlequin diamonds and we can begin talking.

  4. I've veen putting together a few crews for Fistful of Lead/Galactic Heroes, this guy would work well in a rag tag mercenary crew.

  5. I was the "town crier", but never organizer, for the WotC game for Greater Milwaukee. I was neutral to all the stores and tried to get as many people to as many events possible so we all had as many trading partners and prizes as possible.
I did not have the skills to modify anything, so while I have 100 points of all the non-unique figures, my armies are all boring identical repeats.
My email is the-ewoks @ wi.rr.com, but will comment on your FB post, as I check that more frequently.
I put those spaces in my email because it looks like any bot can see this page. Obviously there are no spaces.

  6. I love this unit - there's something really appealing to a group of animalistic hairy alien brutes...or is that just me?! Your yellow-furred one with the cybernetic implant is my favourite of the bunch.

Would I like the spare Olley figure? Would he fit in perfectly with my alien mercenary misfits? Do I regret more buying a pair when he was selling them the other month? Yes, yes and yes!!
