But of course there's always the option of choosing to use miniatures and/or terrain manufactured by another company, which has the advantage of being quicker and leaving you with more time to work on assembling, painting and actually PLAYING the game as well!
This option also has one over on scouring Ebay for what you want, as it's all there to be ordered, and most companies are sensible with their prices (unlike many Ebay sellers) - but be warned, buying new stuff, while expedient, is not always the cheapest option, and in some cases, may actually turn out to be more expensive than GW, so think about whether you're willing to shell out more for that unique look to your gang or underhive terrain.
Meg's Girls by Maxmini - In Soviet Russia, the Eschers gang up on you! |
Female Jungle Guerillas by Maxmini - Taking House Escher from Riot Girrl to Tank Girl? |
Maxmini are an excellent company producing both miniatures, replacement components and modular terrain suitable for Necromunda, and while they may not be cheaper than the official miniatures, they have strongly-themed sculpts that would work well for any gamer looking to have their gang really stand out from the crowd.
Jungle Fighters by Maxmini - Vanilla, but ready to take on a swirl of Necromundan flavour |
Likewise, these jungle fighters are generic by the crazy and ostentatious standards of the Underhive, but they could easily be customised to fit in with one of the official gangs, or else drafted to stand alongside them as scum or bounty hunters.
Scavengers by Copplestone Castings - Try not to pick it, it'll only leave a scar |
If you're wanting to field a gang of Scavvies or Ash Waste Nomands and don't already have access to the original miniatures, then you're going to go into cardiac arrest when you see the stupid prices being asked on Ebay at the moment.
But never fear, Copplestone Castings have come to the rescue with a very nice range of sci-fi sculpts that feature some excellent scavengers and various ne'er do wells that could very easily prowl menacingly into a Necromunda game near you.
Road Warrior by Copplestone Castings - Does your mobile provider allow you to roll over unused data every month? |
They also do this guy in the shot above, who could do very well as the rugged and yet dashing leader of a scavenger gang, once he's done with his lucrative sideline of flogging mobile phone contracts - but be warned, he may cause palpitations in your wife/partner/girlfriend/boyfriend merely by showing his stubbly face in their immediate vicinity.
Babylon - Municipal Blue by Dave Graffam Models - The Underhive is blue, and there's nothing we can do |
While there are a lot of great companies out there offering terrain, I've chosen to mention Dave Graffam Models on account of the fact that they offer ridiculously cheap downloads of Zip files that contain all the info you need to print off their wide range of terrain, meaning that you can effectively have as many of whatever you buy as your resources allow.
Cargo Pod by Dave Graffam Models - Small and compact, but very much a freebie |
Their site offers not only sci-fi buildings, scenery and floor-tiles, but some of the more generic stuff from the fantasy and modern ranges can be easily used in the Necromunda setting as well, and their are also a small number of free downloads available, such as the cargo pod pictured above, that would be a good place to start.
This is by no means the only range of companies that are out there that are banging out decent alternatives to GW stuff, just some that stood out to me for various reasons, and if you want to look into a wider range, then you could do worse than checking out Spikey Bits's post on the very same subject (which can be found here ).
