Far Corfe: Guy Ubiquitous a.k.a "The Fat Biker"

Guy Ubiquitous - for the record, has never been approached to host a cookery program of any kind...
While I love the gangs of Necromunda and the flavour of 40K in general, one of the things its always been lacking in is the ability to fill in the gaps between the massed armies of the 41st Millenium and the cut-throat clans of the Underhive.

The original Rogue Trader featured smaller and more ragtag forces, often little more than glorified entourages and barely organised rabbles, where the background and characters were as important as what they were actually fighting over.

This was one of the things that I wanted to capture again in Far Corfe, average humans that might be seen going about their disreputable business without being Space Marines or crack IG commandos, and Mark Copplestone's Future Wars miniatures do this quite nicely.

Mark Copplestone's Future Warriors "Rebels" - scum is as scum does.
Copplestone worked for GW, before leaving and sculpting the Future Warriors range for Grenadier, and the minis are still available from places like his own site Copplestone Castings in sets of five or alternatively from EM4 Miniatures individually.

The Future Warriors range recommends itself as the minis are cheap, well made and fit easily into almost any near-future, post apocalyptic or gothic sci-fi setting - as who wouldn't want portly bikers with automatic weapons and savage punks on their gaming table?

Guy Ubiquitous - Front: "It's a fuel tank for a love machine, baby!"

Guy Ubiquitous - Back: Oddly enough, no builder's cleavage in sight.
I deliberately restricted the palette of colours for the Fat Biker, as I wanted his physicality, beard and shades to do the talking for him, meaning that (save for the odd calculator-like device on his belt), he could be anything from a ganger to a nightclub bouncer.

I find he's great to add to the background of scenes and pad out an existing gang where you want the more striking minis to be at the forefront and take the limelight, and as such, he's acquired in my mind the personality of the rather lazy and yet stoic heavy who says little and runs last.

There's a quartet of savage punks almost ready to go from the same range, and I really hope that he'll soon have some more of his fellow bikers along for backup as well.

As always, let me know what you think, share your own memories or pictures of Copplestone minis with me and comment away.
