I honestly thought that I'd come to the end of my little series on suggestions for proxies to be used in the new edition of Necromunda, but then I started to see one miniature after another in Privateer Press's Warmachine range that made me instantly want to track them down and paint them.
|
Khador Battle Mechaniks - can they put their massive tools in your box? |
I'd bought some in the past and only recently got round to painting them, but the sight of the Khador Battle Mechaniks above made me instantly add them to the list and start thinking of the hangers-on that have just been introduced in the rules, such as Ammo Jacks.
|
Dirty Meg - don't jump to conclusions, it could just be her real name... |
|
Vassal Mechanik - apparently he's concerned about his lungs, but fairly laid-back when it comes to his eyes. |
In fact, as you can see from the above images, there are a number of very nice minis in the range that are quite suitable for representing a character skilled in either mechanical matters or fixing the guns of a hard-working Underhive gang.
|
Cygnar Gun Mage Adept Captain - keeping alive the Steampunk trope that goggles are to protect the forehead... |
Of course each faction in Warmachine has it's own distinct feel, but the mini above could very easily be adapted to suit an Orlock gang with a simple weapon switch and some basic Green Stuff additions, and many more would make great Bounty Hunters or Underhive Scum.
|
General Ossrum - forget the cigar, real men smoke pipes. |
|
Thor Steinhammer - he's on fire...well, actually, he's setting you on fire. |
I can't say that I was taken with the Squat Bounty Hunter myself, and so these guys have a great amount of appeal as alternatives, also having the bonus of being two dwarf-themed minis that are distinctly different and have an identity all of their own.
|
Mechanithralls - no one ever said Servitors were made for their aesthetic qualities... |
And finally, there's scope within the range for other areas of 40K as well, such as these rather rotten Mechanithralls, which might make interesting alternative Servitors, perhaps belonging to an Adeptus Mechanicus Adept that's simply not concerned with the squeamish sensibilities of outsiders, or long-forgotten Servitors assigned to mundane duties deep within the depths of the Hive and then left to decay as they toil away in obscurity.
That's by no means the extent of the Warmachine range, nor is it the limit of the minis that I think are suitable for adaptation in the Necromunda setting, just a quick couple of examples. Part of me thinks that most will already be well aware of them, and another part of me wants to keep you from becoming competition for the bargains that occasionally appear on Ebay.
But, as always, let me know what you think in the comments section below.
I also had the same idea http://rolerorural.blogspot.com/2018/12/mercader-squat-en-necromunda.html
ReplyDeleteI have a number of miniatures from this range that are doing their duty as civilians and Imperial functionaries in Necromunda at the moment too.
